I wanna be big, just like my daddy

So, he waved
He waved to the people that expected him
And he smiled
There's no time like that one
No feeling so sharp
Then, he retreated
To this little cottage up the street
He spent his time looking at maps and stars and poems
And suddenly, he said "I'll do it"
And he did it
People cheered some more
The expecting ones were satisfied
They got together in Hotel California
Laughing through the cigarrette smoke
And repeating his name to exhaustion
"It will be good"
Some others cried, but they deserved it
It's not who you are, but who keeps you company
Most of the pure ones nodded in agreement
Something had to be done
Something, exactly that
Then, the silence
He looked around
No one dared to move
He grinned broadly
Went up the hill and shut them dead
And, upon the pile of corpses, he yelled:
"Now I'm big, just like my daddy
Bigger than he ever was"
The silent crowds nodded, too
And cheered him into the high place again
Out of the fear he instilled
Out of the fear he provoked
The expecting ones right behind him
Faces hidden in the shadows
"What next?", he asks
"The world"
"My daddy never got the world"
"But you will"
And the eagle, upon hearing these words
Took a deep last breath
Because she was old and wise
She sighed and plummeted into a rock
Before he would get her
"My daddy never killed the eagle"
"No", the man with the glasses whispered, "But you did"
And they laughed until the sun rose in the sky
For the very last time
